BOOKING POLICY

We’re so glad you’re considering a stay at Eight Day Rain. Because we are a small, family-run business, each reservation is very important to us. Here’s everything you need to know before booking with us.

Cancellation policy

Please read through the following document carefully, as it applies to all current and prospective guests.

Bookings and deposits

  • Once you have received your booking invoice, a 50% deposit payment becomes due immediately.
  • Your booking is not confirmed until the 50% deposit payment is received.
  • Bookings made within 15 days of the arrival date are not confirmed until payment is made in full.
  • Please note that deposits are not refundable.
  • The remaining 50% of your total booking cost becomes due 15 calendar days before your arrival date.
  • Please send all proof of payment to eightdayrain@gmail.com.

Cancellations and refunds

We understand that plans can change unexpectedly. However, cancellations (regardless of the reasons) result in additional work and potential loss of business. The more last minute a cancellation is, the less likely it is that we will be able to resell the accommodation. For this reason we retain a percentage of the total booking cost upon cancellation, depending on when you cancel.

  • If you cancel your booking less than 15 days before your arrival date: 100% of the total booking cost is retained. I.e. You will still be liable for the total booking cost.
  • If you cancel prior to 15 calendar days before your arrival date: 50% of your total booking cost will be retained. I.e. We won’t charge you for the total booking cost, but we will keep the deposit.

We know that unforeseen events like illness or family emergencies can happen, and we truly sympathize. However, to keep things fair for everyone, and to protect our business, we apply the above policy consistently and are unable to make exceptions. Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you for supporting our guest farm! We look forward to welcoming you and making your stay as relaxing and memorable as possible!

Pet policy

At Eight Day Rain, we welcome certain pets under carefully considered conditions. Our policy applies to dogs, cats, and birds only. For all other animals, please contact us directly.

Right of admission is reserved. Access is conditional on full compliance with this policy, and any breach—whether a single incident or repeated non-compliance—may result in us asking you to remove your pet from the property.

PLEASE NOTE
  • None of our units or campsites are fenced.
  • We do not take responsibility or liability for pets or pet injuries.
  • Guests accept full responsibility for the wellbeing, behaviour, and environmental impact of their pets during their stay.

Dogs

All visiting dogs must be approved in advance, as permission to bring pets is not automatic and depends on our prior consent for each stay.

A daily rate of R35 per dog per night applies

Please note that we do not provide any pet bedding, bowls, or other amenities, and pets are not permitted on beds or furniture under any circumstances. For the safety and comfort of all guests, dogs must remain under their owner’s supervision at all times - either within sight and responsive to voice commands, or kept on a leash if they are not reliably obedient.

Behaviour and conduct
  • Dogs must be well-socialised, non-aggressive, and safe around humans and other animals.
  • Excessive barking, aggression, or destructiveness (e.g., digging or damaging gardens/soil) is not tolerated.
  • Pack formation without supervision is discouraged.
  • Dog owners must respect other visitors — please be mindful that not everyone enjoys being approached by dogs.
Environmental responsibility

Dog owners are expected to take full responsibility for the environmental impact of their pets during their stay.

  • One of the most important aspects of this is waste management. Please keep track of where and when your dog relieves itself, and ensure that all droppings are picked up without exception—whether on pathways, around campsites, in climbing areas, or anywhere else on the property. Before departure, owners must deposit all collected waste into the designated humanure buckets, using the same system we apply for our composting toilets.
  • We ask guests not to dispose of dog waste in plastic bags in our bins, as our waste system cannot process mixed materials. If you have used a plastic poo-bag for convenience, please take it home with you. Long-term guests are also expected to take part in our regular “poop patrols” and to commit to at least one patrol per week, helping us maintain a clean and healthy environment for everyone. This system is an important part of how Eight Day Rain balances being pet-friendly with caring for the landscape, other guests, and our waste management system. Your cooperation ensures the land remains safe, sanitary, and enjoyable for all.
  • Dogs may not chase, harass, or kill wildlife or livestock. Limited exceptions may be made (e.g., chasing dassies from gardens) with explicit permission only.
Safety and liability
  • Dogs may not be left unattended on the farm unless supervised by a responsible sitter who agrees to comply with this policy.
  • Dog owners may be held financially liable for damages or injuries caused to livestock, wildlife, or other pets.
  • Dogs are not permitted on neighbouring properties, including Traveller’s Rest and CapeNature land.
Important notes
  • Farm environments can change animal behaviour. Please anticipate that your dog may act differently here than in urban contexts.
  • Any dog unable to meet these guidelines may be denied future access at the owners’ discretion.

Other pets

  • Cats are not permitted on Eight Day Rain Guest Farm.
  • Birds have not yet been requested by guests. Should you wish to bring a bird, please contact us in advance to discuss feasibility and conditions.

Compliance and enforcement

Failure to comply with this policy may result in:

  • Immediate removal of the pet from the property, and/or
  • Cancellation of your booking without refund.

We look forward to welcoming you and your four-legged companions to Eight Day Rain. By following these simple guidelines, you’ll be helping us keep the farm a safe, beautiful, and enjoyable place for everyone — guests, pets, wildlife, and livestock alike.

Thank you for taking the time to care for this shared space with us.
