Please take a moment to read through our house rules. They have been developed in collaboration with our residents and guests to help everyone avoid and resolve conflicts, get along, and to support the farm’s systems to run smoothly.
The farm is off-grid and entirely solar powered. Be mindful especially of the timing of your energy use and know the wattage of your gadget. Our system cannot handle hair dryers, air fryers, bar-heaters, blenders and similar (ask us if you’re unsure!). Please unplug laptops that are not in use. Guests may use the washing machine between 10am-4pm on sunny days only.
The farm hosts many different kinds of guests and residents, some of whom work remotely from their accommodation. Noise travels easily in the campsite and tents don't provide much sound protection, so please be mindful of your noise impact:
We believe in the ethos of “leave it better than you found it.” We kindly ask all guests and residents to keep our communal spaces clean and tidy; ready to welcome the next person who will use them. This means avoiding leaving dirty dishes overnight, storing your belongings in a way that ensures everyone else has enough room, and cleaning up after yourself (especially in the ablutions and the kitchens). After you’ve finished using shared areas, take a moment to tidy up, check that there is no food left out, and give the floor a sweep!
All trash and waste material that you generate at Eight Day Rain is processed (by us) on the farm. All organic waste should go into the compost caddy immediately, and this should be emptied into the Bokashi bin regularly. Correct use of the recycling bins is a non-negotiable. Please ensure all recyclables are washed and dry before going into the bins.
It is incredibly important to be vigilant and practice impeccable fire safety while you are a guest on the farm. No open flames are allowed in tented accommodation structures. Do not ever leave a fire or flame unattended (this includes fires, gas stoves and candles). Only ever make fires inside designated fireplaces (our campsites do not have fireplaces yet so please use the Central Space fire pit only). Do not light a fire when it is windy.
We have precious resident dogs on the property. Please take care when driving around, and always drive slowly (there is a 20km speed limit on the farm roads, and a 10km speed limit near all camping and accommodation units). Do not give dogs treats or feed them from your table or plate – only scritches and love please.
